Now that Thanksgiving has passed, many families are scrambling to find ways to keep the Christmas spirit alive. Fortunately, DFW offers a wide variety of events and experiences that are sure to put a smile on even The Grinch’s face, however, all of the options can be a bit overwhelming. To help with this, we decided to create a list of some of our favorite Christmas activities you can find in DFW this holiday season. Take a look below to to see some of what the metroplex has to offer!

1. ICE! & Christmas at Gaylord Texan

Grapevine – The ICE! exhibit has become a holiday tradition for families across America. Over 2 million pounds of ice are intricately carved by expert artists flown in from China. The theme for this year’s exhibit is the modern Christmas classic movie, Elf. Attendees will walk through some of their favorite movie scenes and even have the opportunity to slide down a themed slide made entirely of ice! If possible, go earlier in the day or holiday season to help avoid the crowds. The Gaylord also offers a variety of other Christmas experiences, ranging from indoor snow tubing to scavenger hunts. Those on a tight budget can also simply stroll through the hotel’s atrium and enjoy the thousands of Christmas lights and decorations that adorn the already impressive scenery. The Gaylord Texan

Waxahachie – The nativity story comes to life with this impressive experience featuring live animals, a mock village, and scenes that regularly unfold. Visitors will be transported back 2,000 years to Israel where they will personally encounter surly Roman soldiers, pompous tax collectors, and many other historic figures. Kids are able to pet sheep and chickens, as well as see camels up close. The patrons at the village shops show how soap, bread, pottery, and oil was produced in ancient times. You can tour at your own pace or follow the events of the story as they unfold. It is a nondenominational event put on by multiple churches in Waxahachie. One of the best things about Bethlehem Revisited is that it is FREE! They do take donations, but it is not required. Complimentary hot chocolate is also provided outside the venue. The event runs from 6pm-9pm on December 5-7 and 12-14, weather permitting. Bethlehem Revisited

6. The Trains At NorthPark

Dallas – Another long-running holiday tradition has returned to Dallas for its 38th anniversary, The Trains at NorthPark. Over 1,600 feet of track have been constructed for this exhibit, filled with miniature trains and models that will please visitors of all ages. Those that have attended before can attest that these are no typical toy train sets! The details and decorations put into this display are one of the reasons why it has become a regular holiday tradition for many families across DFW. One of the best parts is that your visit also helps give back to the community. Proceeds go to the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, supporting families of hospitalized children. To top off the evening, a different Cowboy’s legend honorarily lights the tree each night.
