The 33rd Annual Dallas International Guitar Festival kicks off and continues throughout the weekend, bringing world renowned musicians, and scores of fans to the city for what is sure to be a weekend full of amazing memories and even more amazing music.  The festival is the world’s largest and oldest guitar festival, and annually draws tens of thousands of attendees, last year drawing 20,000 people to Dallas Market Hall, where the event will be held again this year. 

Well it almost sneaked up on you, but have no fear because I’ve got the scoop on Record Store Day! This Saturday, April 17th, independently owned record stores both locally and nationally will collaborate with artists to celebrate music. This is the perfect opportunity for you to support your local record store, artists, and hear some new music!

After the 2010 SXSW Music Festival, Next Big Sound, a tracking tool for monitoring fan interaction with music groups, released data on their website that was music to my ears. Personally, I can’t resist hearing new music that might potentially takeover my iTunes playlist for the next few months. Last week I sampled all the artists on the list, bought a few albums, and then dug in a little deeper to check if any of them were coming to town. Here at ILiveinDallas.com, we have traditionally promoted and reported on the Dallas art scene, advocacy, musical performances, education, literary talks, and cultural events in order to encourage the creative and expansive growth of the community. We are now opening a new category: technology and the social web. We want to offer our readers educational and networking opportunities in order to learn everything they can about using social media, web tools, and ways to collaborate with like-mined individuals to expand their knowledge. With that said, here is our first official article in this new category.

GuerillaArts, the nonprofit space committed to increasing art awareness and support in Dallas, will be giving tours of their 5,000 sqft building this Sunday – even the upstairs artist studio space, which has been closed off at past events.

Stop by between 2 and 4pm – meet and mingle with the people behind GuerillaArts and your local artist community. They will be talking about the great things GuerillaArts will be launching this spring, including the artist in residency program, spring classes and their summer institute for high school aged artists.
