This beer-tastic event started around 6 p.m. and ended around 10 p.m. Unlike other events, Labor of Love seemed more fun-loving and less competitive overall. Maybe it was the low cost of entry ($30), and unlimited beer samples, but patrons seemed to be more gleeful because they got their money’s worth.
The sidewalk outside of a beautiful, modern house off Lovers Lane gained traffic as it grew closer and closer to 4:30 PM on Saturday. “Someone havin’ a party?†a neighbor asked me. “You could say that…†I replied. As I gave my name to the lady with the clipboard at the door, she crossed me […]
Celebrating its fifth year in Dallas, the largest French festival in North Texas has returned. Highlights of the day include a mussels competition, Vespa rally, crepe stands, petanque courts (what is petanque? Click here), French music, dancing, and wine tasting.
What is burlesque? Urban Dictionary defines it as “A variety show that uses: comedians, strippers, or musicians that often sing and dance while removing their clothes in a seductive manner.” It requires its performers (mainly female) to act out comic sketches mixed with dancing that pokes fun at everything. There are rules: minimum costuming, sexually-related dialog or innuendo, and clever comedic moments that are easy to laugh at and harmless.
Wilco fans were not disappointed Sunday night at The Majestic . Frontman Jeff Tweedy gave a performance unlike anything Dallas has seen from him before, accompanied by a new tour band including his son Spencer on drums. Tweedy and son are expected to release their collaborative album Sukierae this September.
Godzilla. Xmen. 22 Jump Street. Congratulations, you know a few of the huge summer movies coming out in 2014. But what about those independent movies or bands that all your cool friends talk about? You nod your head and agree with their reviews while you actually have no idea what “movies†or “bands†they’re referring […]
I arrived at Main Street Garden at last, and I am met with full crowd. The 24th Annual Asian Festival was being held this year in downtown Dallas and of all the places they could have picked, they went with Main Street Garden. This fairly large rectangular box splayed in the middle of downtown fits […]

Could we possibly get through an article about polka without using a Czech pun or three? The answer is no. Need a reason to Czech out something different this Memorial Day Weekend? The answer is yes, and involves kolaches. The National Polka Festival kicks off this Friday through Sunday in Ennis, Texas.
You know what I love about Asian culture? Everything. I love the food. I enjoy the many types of entertainment. I appreciate the history.
