El Ten Eleven is a two piece instrumental band out of Los Angeles, CA. Bassist and composer Kristian Dunn and drummer Tim Fogarty have been playing together since 2003 and was a showcase artist at SXSW in 2006.

I first heard El Ten Eleven on the soundtrack of Helvetica, an independent documentary released in 2007. I was hooked on the entire soundtrack for a couple of months.

If you’re looking for a laid back, low key scene this Saturday, I would recommend making your way to Double Wide around 10:30pm and listening to this duo live at 11.

Looking for something free to do this Sunday? Lakewoodstock invites you to shop, eat, drink and learn about greener living. Enjoy live music from local acts on two main stages, plus there will be a singer/songwriter stage on the patio at Whole Foods. The neighborhood festival is from 2-8pm this Sunday, May 17th.

Saturday, May 9th is the 3rd annual Ultraviolet Rock Show and Art Auction at Club Dada in Deep Ellum.

On Friday, May 1st, Texas Theater will be showing Lon Chaney’s 1923 horror classic, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Paul Slavens will lead a live musical score to accompany the screening. Tickets are cheap – $8/Adult $4/Children. Purchase tix online. Showtime is at 7pm.

These are the best sort of events to go to. A classic film in an old theater, a live orchestra, and a cheap ticket to get in. Take advantage of stuff like this. You’ll be surprised at what you get out of it.

It’s not often I post about music shows in Dallas, and it’s not because Dallas does not have great acts coming through, it’s just that I’m not the source to go to for music. If you are an author of/for one of these sites, thank you for keeping us up-to-date on all the local shows in DFW. The Cavern is a two-story, tiny bar on Lower Greenville. It’s named after the original Cavern that the Beatles made their start in. It’s easy to miss, sandwiched between some dance clubs and restaurants across the street from Taco Cabana. The Cavern is definitely a dive bar. It’s dark, dingy and there’s Beatles memorabilia everywhere.

Swank Presents and Belmont Hotel begins ‘Barefoot at the Belmont’ on Thursday, April 30th with Austin based musician, David Garza. Chill out poolside and enjoy the best view in Dallas. Bring your blanket, good friends, and listen to some damn good indie singer-songwriters from Austin, Texas. Check out the full concert schedule here.

Strokes for a Cure is an event featuring two artists: a musician and a painter. Together they will originate a work of art for a worthy cause. Seth Simmons, pianist, will play his original compositions while Rolando Diaz, Cuban-American artist, paints an original oil on canvas. A silent auction for the painting will follow their performance. Strokes for a Cure is a benefit for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
