[ July 22, 2010 to July 29, 2010. ] With 25 films making their Southwest, United States or North American premieres, the 2010 Asian Film Festival of Dallas gives viewers a rare opportunity to see movies covering the spectrum of cinema from ten countries. The festival runs July 23-29 at venues around Dallas. See the 2010 lineup.
[ June 13, 2010; ] In an effort to sing the praises of the wonderful, local things that Dallas has to offer, I’ve put together a list of 20 of my truly local Dallas favorites. Each is unique to Dallas. No big box stores or chains here. Read on to the find the best place in Dallas to get truffle cheese, make your own dress, and get the best espresso.

October 28, 2009; 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. ] Every Wednesday night this month, the Belmont Hotel, in conjunction with Corgan Media Lab, will be showing movies under the stars. Bring your blanket and enjoy a flick with the most beautiful view of Dallas as your backdrop.

October 22, 2009; 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm. ] The Angelika will be showing FREE Hitchcock movies every Thursday on the pavilion at Mockingbird station. Some seats will be available, but chairs, blankets and picnic baskets are encouraged. Film starts at 8pm and you don't want to miss the Oct 8th showing of Rear Window. Did you know Hitchcock makes a cameo appearance in 39 of his 52 major films?

[ May 20, 2009; 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm. ] Classic movie night at The Belmont Hotel would be perfect for a date night or even going without one. Alright, perhaps this is an event that yields better with company, so bring a friend and a big blanket. BarBelmont will be serving food and alcohol, so don't bring your beer cooler. Doors will open at 7:30pm and the movie will begin at sundown. Running late? Don't worry. Valet parking is provided, and admission is free.
[ May 1, 2009; 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. ] On Friday, May 1st, Texas Theater will be showing Lon Chaney's 1923 horror classic, The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Paul Slavens will lead a live musical score to accompany the screening. Tickets are cheap - $8/Adult $4/Children. Purchase tix online. Showtime is at 7pm.
These are the best sort of events to go to. A classic film in an old theater, a live orchestra, and a cheap ticket to get in. Take advantage of stuff like this. You'll be surprised at what you get out of it.
