No kidding. Every Saturday from 1:00-3:00pm the Rahr Brewery celebrates (really, it’s like a mini Oktoberfest) their brewery tour with style - music, drinking, and food.

And by free beer, Rahr means beers, plural. Try any three beers they have on tap that day and hang out with the good people of Fort Worth.

You don’t need a reservation, but call early in the week to make sure they don’t have a special event that Saturday. The bartender over at The Porch told me about it and their group had rented out the whole place for the day.

If you go during the summer, wear something cool because it is hot and they keep the doors open.

The place is packed with sweaty people who like to drink. Sounds like a fine place to be if you land yourself in Fort Worth for the weekend.

Last night the Company sponsored our monthly event at Mozzarella Company in Deep Ellum. The event was a tour of the Mozzarella factory followed by a wine and cheese tasting. Paula Lambert is the founder and was also our host for the evening. The wine aficionado was John Bratcher who is one of The Two Wine Guys.  The factory is very small (maybe 2500 sqft) and the group last night had been her largest yet. After the short tour we sat down Italian style at a long 25-person table, set with our first glass of wine and a plate with 8 different cheeses. My favorite pairing was the Malbec wine with the Black Pepper Garlic Caciotta. However, the Mascarpone Pecan Praline Torta was like a sweet whip cream aired out in heaven! The Marcarpone was paired with a Sparkling Red wine from Italy that also goes great with chocolate. Here is a picture and list of all the wines and cheeses we tasted. The cheeses are numbered on the list.

Firestone Vineywards Riesling (Santa Barbara, CA) — (1) Queso Blanco with Chiles and Epazote

Abbey of Saint-Hilaire Chardonnay (Burgandy, France) — (2) Mozzarella Roll with Green Olives

McPherson Trey Colore (Texas) — (3) Montasio Festivo

Casa Marguery Malbec (Argentina) — (4) Black Pepper Garlic Caciotta

Brachetto d’ Acqui Red Sparkling (Italy) — (5) Mascarpone Pecane Praline Torta

Crossings Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand) — (6) Rosemary Montasio, (7) Goat Log, (8) Blanca Bianca

Last night LevelTen Design sponsored our monthly activity event at Whirlyball Dallas (in desperate need of a new website). What seemed destined at the beginning to be an event with only 4 participants making the best of it, turned out to be one of our best nights together. I had never laughed so much in a go-cart.

The game is to get the ball into the square using your scoop and score more points than the other team. Seems easy enough. But it’s not, and it’s OK because everyone is aiming just as bad as you. It’s fun, competitive and inexpensive. We had rented the room for an hour and the total cost was a little more than $200 (with open bar).
