[ April 23, 2009; 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. ] Reserve your seat for next Wednesday's panel discussion about how art impacts and often leads the way to social changes. The evening will also feature discussion about the upcoming operas, Dead Man Walking (Fort Worth Opera, May 2009) and Moby Dick (world premiere, Dallas Opera, 2010) and music from Dead Man Walking and other Heggie/Prejean collaborations.
[ April 18, 2009; 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. ] The Dallas Art Dealers Association (DADA) will have its annual Spring Gallery Walk, panel discussions, and Scholarship show on Saturday, April 18th. From 2-8pm, art lovers (or the lovers of art lovers) will be able to view all exhibits for free. There are places all over the Metroplex, from Dallas to Irving and even into Arlington. For us in the Dallas area, you can knock out almost half of them if you start in Uptown area and then work your way over to the Design District (aka Dragon Street.)
[ March 21, 2009; 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. March 22, 2009; 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. ] ArtScape is the Dallas Arboretum's fine art and craft show and sale. This weekend (March 21st and 22nd) is the two-day art fair featuring artists from around the country, wine tasting and food. The ArtScape Festival is during Dallas Blooms, the premier floral festival in the Soutwest and listed on MSNBC's top ten things to do in American in the spring. Dallas Blooms is already in its third week and will run through April 14th.
[ March 26, 2009 to April 2, 2009. ] AFI Dallas is around the corner. Literally. From NorthPark to Victory Park to Nasher Sculpture Center, beginning on March 26th through April 2nd AFI will premier films, host events, and feature free panels and lectures. Stay tuned to ILiD - I will be posting events/films as I see them.
One of the things I didn’t attend last year was the lecture series they offered to filmmakers and filmgoers, called Talk/Show. This year, I have listed the complete schedule and plan to attend a couple. The panel discussions are free and open to the public.

[ May 16, 2009; 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. ] The first annual Etsy Spring Bash will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 11am - 5pm. The show will feature local handpicked artists and crafters, DJ tunes, DIY crafts, a free Etsy Dallas-sized raffle, and 50 free swag bags filled with handmade Etsy Dallas items. Sign me up for one of those, please! The event is free and open to the public. Spring Bash will be at South Side on Lamar located at 1401 S Lamar St.
[ March 21, 2009; 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. ] HCG Gallery presents Floyd Newsum's "Composition, Marks and Arrangements" exhibit, beginning on March 21st and running through April 11th. HCG invites you to welcome the internationally acclaimed Houston artist on March 21st from 5-8pm. The reception is open to the public. At the bottom of this post is a video of Newsum from the Houston PBS production, "Art is All Around Us."
[ April 3, 2009; 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. ] Strokes for a Cure is an event featuring two artists: a musician and a painter. Together they will originate a work of art for a worthy cause. Seth Simmons, pianist, will play his original compositions while Rolando Diaz, Cuban-American artist, paints an original oil on canvas. A silent auction for the painting will follow their performance. Strokes for a Cure is a benefit for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
[ March 8, 2009; 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. ] The Public Trust will exhibit the works of the late artist Charley Harper. The opening reception will be on Saturday, March 7th from 6-9pm. The lecture is presented in conjunction with Shettar’s recent exhibition at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
