Could Suburbia Music Festival in Plano be the Next Coachella or Bonnaroo?

A taste of the bands you'll be seeing.

A taste of the bands you'll be seeing.

While the Dallas music festival scene isn't quite like the big boys in Tennessee or California yet, the ‘burbs seem to be on the right track. Music lovers, feast your ears on Suburbia: a two-day, mixed-genre music festival right in our backyard.

What’s The Lineup Look Like?
When comparing a festival to the gods of music fests such as Bonnaroo and Coachella, you can only hope that there’s more to the lineup than local acts that, while may be great, you’ve probably never heard of. Good news, popular music fan: you’ve heard of (and love) the bands they’re bringing in. Headlining the festival are big wigs David Guetta, Alabama Shakes, and J. Cole. Think about it: all different genres, more great people watching. And just when you thought “But where is the indie? The 90s pop? The rock?” just let me finish, Kanye. Performers include Tegan and Sara, Slightly Stoopid, Third Eye Blind, Blue October, The Dandy Warhols, Violent Femmes, Needtobreathe, Hoodie Allen, Yelawolf, Midlake, American Authors…*takes a breath*…and a ton of others that are just waiting to make sweet music love to you.

Check out all the bands that will be featured at the fest.

Got a kid you can’t get rid o—err, find a sitter for? Kids under 10 get in free with a paid adult.

  1. I cant wait!

    1. Us either. Should be fun.

  2. Can't wait to see where this festival goes! The first year looks like its gonna be pretty awesome. I've already got my tickets.

    1. Awesome! We'll see ya there.

  3. It'd have to take a HUGE step up next year to be even remotely close to any of the big fests. It's dominated by lame radio alt rock acts and EDM acts. I guess some people are big into that, but I HATE this EDM wave thats taking over fests, it draws annoying crowds and with a few rare exceptions none of the acts are very interesting. David Guetta as an unopposed headliner? Come on guys. At least put a small act on a small stage across from him. I'd genuinely rather leave early then listen to his bland music.

It's nice that Dallas has a music fest but i hope they do better next year. at least schedule better, don't do unopposed headliners

    1. With all due respect, I don't think David Guetta is unopposed. The other two headliners are Alabama Shakes and J. Cole, completely different genres. I'd also say that David Guetta is classified as house music rather than EDM; he started off as a DJ.

And as far as a smaller act on a small stage across from him, Tegan and Sara are playing in that time slot...on a smaller stage. There are actually 3 different stages and they all feature a ton of variety as far as the music goes. I don't think The O's or Midlake or Needtobreathe are necessarily "lame radio alt rock". But to each his own.

But yes, definitely a step in the right direction for Dallas as far as music fests!

      1. is this a satirical website??

        1. Nope. Seriously.

  4. I'm excited! You certainly can't beat the price; ACL VIP is $1050 without premium stage viewing areas. Can't wait to see the Violent Femmes, Third Eye Blind, Meg Myers and Echosmith just to name a few. Just wish the festival planners had a better social media person, I'd like to hear more about how the set up is progressing now that we are 9 days out.

  5. this is totally annoying, my kid has school tomorrow and its going to be playing all the way till 10! that's crazy I hope this doesn't come back here! Coachella eve isn't even this long! music is so loud, my friend that lives 10 minutes away can still hear it so clearly! we have to escape from our home to try to avoid. think about the residents living in this area suffering from the noise for 2 days. please, please, please, don't EVER COME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Relax and rejuvenate your inner spirits with active participation in the Coachella music festival.
